The inaugural ceremony for the FDP took place on the G-suite Google meet, and the theme was “Pedagogical changes achievable through ICT”.

The conveners of the FDP, Dr. TKS Lakshmi Priya, HoD, Printing Technology, Avinashilingam Institute and Prof. Madhura Mahajan, HoD, Printing Engineering, PVG’s COET, Pune hosted the inaugural.

The inaugural address was rendered by Sunil P. Redekar, Registrar, Pune Vidyarthi Griha and Director, PVG’s COET, Dr. Kalyani Kulkarni, Principal, P.V.G.’s COET and Prof. K.N. Rajarao, Director, School of Engineering, Avinashilingam Institute.

In his address Sunil P. Redekar expressed his pleasure in being a part of this much needed FDP and first-of-a-kind joint venture, conducted totally online. Prof. K.N. Rajarao said that it is the right time to conduct such FDPs not only for printing discipline but also for all others.

He cautioned that this “Anytime anywhere” mode is suitable for teaching most part of curriculum but is of no use for working with machines as in practical sessions in the present scenario. However this scenario will evolve and we will see more technologies supporting a better platform for pedagogy.

Dr. Kalyani Kulkarni emphasized that teaching fraternity should get adapted and experienced in ICT based tools and high quality pedagogy with due responsibility. Therefore the role of a teacher is in creating a better citizen and not merely imparting education.

Three well-known personalities in the printing fraternity, associated with printing education, rendered the special address.

Dr. Rajendra Kumar Anayath, VC, DCRUST University, Haryana presented a future-possibility where most of the educational activities will be online and teachers will carry out administrative tasks at the backend of the online education platform.

Actual teaching will be done by robots and smart bots. With technologies like cloud computing, AI and more taking the front stage, education will turn to social behavior, circular economy and globalization.

Prof Kamal Chopra, Honorary Professor in many India and foreign Printing Institutes said printing is today a combination of Art, Technology and Science.

He pointed out that to keep pace with international standards, Indian printing institutions must have setup facilities for online education with infrastructure, simulators, and software-based solutions for all the topics in printing.

Dayakar Reddy, Founder President, GIPT, Secunderabad Alumni Association highlighted the need for industry-institute interaction so that teachers will know the industry scenario and accordingly groom the students ready for the industry.

He advised the faculty members to enforce a strict self-learning regime to the students – they must browse the internet for topics within and outside curriculum, for at least 1/2 hr every day.
