5 COVID-19 patients at PSG Hospitals successfully recover, get discharged

Five COVID-19 Positive patients who received treatment at PSG Hospitals got cured and were discharged on Saturday.

The Doctors of the Hospital Dr.Murali, Dept of Infectious Disease, Dr.Karthikeyan, ICU, Dr.Karthikeyan, Dept of Pulmonology and Dr.Vinoth,Senior Consultant, COVID Taskforce, PSG Hospitals who treated the patients held a press conference today at the Dean Office and shared about the treatment given to them.

All the 5 patients were from Coimbatore and were aged 50+. Out of the five patients, four had only minimal symptoms whereas1 patient was in severe condition and he needed ICU treatment.

Dr. Karthikeyan from ICU said that this patient who was aged 51 was admitted here on April 3. He had breathing difficulties and he was close to lose his consciousness, and so ventilator was used from April 4. His breathing capacity didnt improve for 3 days.

“We consulted with our COVID-19 Task Force and analyzed what are the best treatment options provided around the world for this infection. We treated him and his body responded gradually well. On April 12th he was able to breathe on his own without ventilator support. He was shifted out of ICU to normal ward. He recovered and today he is getting discharged.

Normally when a patient is put on Ventilator support, people will feel like losing hope. But his recovery from corona gave us hope”.

“He is the first patient in Coimbatore to enter ventilator support and recover successfully. He had diabetes also and such a person recovering from COVID-19 gives us hope not just to us but to everyone. We need to appreciate the service rendered by nurses. They have been phenomenal” added Dr.Karthikeyan.

Recovered patients have been advised to be in 14 days isolation, take normal diet but see that they have nutritious content.

Dr.Murali said that PSG Hospitals has applied to ICMR for Plasma Therapy study, and is waiting for approval.

Apart from this 8 other COVID-19 patients are at PSG Hospitals getting treated.
