UGC Panel recommends Universities to commence academic sessions in September

Keeping in mind about the COVID-19 crisis, University Grants Commission formed committees to come with reports about the time for commecing academic sessions in Higher Education offering Institutes and also to evaluate the scenario and present solutions regarding higher education in India.

UGC Panel has recommended that higher educations institutes to commence academic session on September and not on July.

Under the leadership of R.C.Kuhand, Vice Chancellor of Haryana University, a committee was formed to look into various ways of conducting exams in Universities during the lockdown. This committee was also tasked with preparing an alternate calendar for universities.

Another committee under Nageshwar Rao, Vice Chancellor of IGNOU was formed to suggest measures to be taken towards improving online education in India.

The panels have suggested that if the institutes and universities can follow their normal examination mode and conduct exams after the lockdown is lifted. But if they have the infrastructure to conduct online exams, they can go for that too.

Both panels/committees submitted their reports on Friday. MHRD will study the reports, take what is feasible and provide guidelines in another 2 weeks.

Times Now reported that key entrance exams like JEE and NEET could be conducted on June after assessing the situation.
