Onam is a cultural festival that unites people of Kerala regardless of all religious and caste beliefs. The auspicious festival is celebrated not only in the State of Kerala but also in the neighboring states.

Coimbatore, a second home for the students of Kerala, never fails to celebrate the special day. The Samrudhi-2017 one of the flagship events of PSG Institute of Management (PSGIM) was celebrated in the campus’ amphitheatre, PSGIM recently.

Every year the level is stepped up and the effort starting from the groundwork till the execution is done by the excited Student Organizer.

Dr. Gayathri inaugurated the occasion. Dr. R.Nandagopal, Director of PSGIM, addressed the gathering. Samrudhi’17 started with “Chenda Melam”, a traditional music custom was performed by a team of people from Kerala made students to dance in joy.

The campus of PSGIM looked extremely lively with awesome decorations all over the college campus with colorful paper works and huge banners. Even the minute details related to the event and the rituals were also taken care of. It was exceptional to witness the effort of the students who had put their heart and soul into it.

Onampattu, thiruvathira kali, kathakali performance, ethnic show with different Onam-Centric rounds and lively performances of the students mesmerized the participants. Shingari Melam was the highlight of the cultural event.

The event comprised a series of games for the juniors and seniors of PSGIM. Tug of war and Uriyadi were organized and prizes were given to the best teams. Pre-event competitions like pookolam competiton, banner competition, group contest and mannequin challenge were conducted by the Game Committee and prizes were given at the end of the event.

Students prepared “Onamsadya”, a special meal of Onam day, with 15 dishes including rice, sambhar and paysams and served it to everyone. “The entire preparations for the feast were done by us,” said a Student Organizer.

“It’s a great opportunity to host such big event in the campus upholding the reputation of the college. But, as the history has it, we have never failed. Our professors gave us their continuous support in building our morale throughout. If such an opportunity was not held out to us, we would have never realized our mettle” said Swathi Krishna, Final Year MBA Student.”

She also added that “We strived hard to make it memorable for the new entrants. It’s a platform for the newbies to display their talents and interests. In fact, it’s an opportunity for them to get along with their batch mates and make new friends. Meanwhile they can also develop a good rapport with their seniors. We hope it will help them in the upcoming years for conducting various events in the college”.

“And for us, the seniors, this is a way to give back to the institution, the place where we grew as a person, as professionals and the place which let us delve deep into ourselves to realize our potential.”

“To see all our batchmates and our juniors enjoy the show and to see our professor’s smile made our day. It’s all team work and we made sure that no stone was left unturned to make this event a grand success. And hopefully, we have raised the bar and hope that it would be a motivation to the upcoming batches.”
