Making girls more than just a pretty face

The question of whether pimples could affect a girl’s confidence could only be answered by the ones who have had it and those who have heard their stories. We on the other hand could go around saying ‘What harm does a pimple pose?’

My First Pimple is a flagship campaign of Himalaya that was started in 2016 to make a difference in the faces and lives of teen-girls. For the 4th consecutive year, through the campaign, Himalaya is continuing to sensitize teen-girl students about how to confidently manage pimples. In Coimbatore, the campaign was held at Sri Sowdeswari Vidyalaya Matric Higher Secondary School on Tuesday.

Himalaya Team from Bengaluru led by Keerthika Damodharan, Brand Manager- Face Wash, Consumer Products Division, Himalaya interacted with 200 girl students. Keerthika said getting pimples is normal and “more than 85% of world’s teenage population has pimples”. She conveyed what are the Do’s and Do Not’s with pimple.

Home-made and Healthy vegetables were suggested and she asked them to avoid oil-rich snacks and junk food. Advising them that too much washing the face could also lead to getting pimples, she recommended them to not wash often. She wanted them to use soap-free cleansers. She asked them to not be afraid of the pollution and the heat outside but go out and pursue their dreams. Taking to The Covai Mail, she said that this campaign had its genesis after Himalaya spoke to customers about skin. Suggestions from users have also been a part of this campaign’s birth. She said “every year we conduct this campaign in 8-9 schools in semi-urban areas”, and the impact on student-community has been positive, as they hear from us and from the special guests that pimple is not a reason to lose confidence.”

Highlight of the event was the Lady Mohammed Ali of India- Ms. Thulasi Helen, famous boxer and MMA Fighter who holds the national unbroken record for the fastest Knock Out. Addressing the students, she said “all the troubles in life are like pimples; we need to find solution, and not poke them.” She shared her story and inspired them to chase goals despite the hurdles. “When someone pushes you down into a pit, don’t see the depth of the fall but reach for the heights to get your success”, she stressed. “Teachers are like you parents and siblings, listen to their words.Be courageous in life and give respect to everyone.”

Thulasi announced that she will be soon-making a Kashmir to Kanya Kumari Bike trip, to honor women.
