Union Tex. Secretary to meet Associations on Feb 12 in Covai

Union Textile Secretary, Ravi Kapoor will be in Coimbatore on Feb 12, 2020 to meet heads of all Textile associations in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka.

Representatives of all stakeholders in Textiles (from the top to grassroots level) will discuss about industry at this meet. T.Rajkumar, Chairman, CITI announced this at a meeting held at SIMA on 8.2.2020

He also briefed that on December 26, 2019 heads of SIMA, ITF, CITI, TEA and representatives of companies Welspun , Raymonds, Vardhman Textiles,Aravind Mills and other manufacturers met Prime Minister personally to convey the urgent needs of Industry.

He said PM had said that a solution will be given for getting Inverted Duties, a special cell in customs to monitor textile imports will be established. The delegation had also said that polyester and man-made fiber should be made available in India at the price that is sold and bought in international markets. Only then, the growth in the industry will be stable and attain improvement.

T.Rajkumar said “for 30 years, purified terephthalic acid (PTA – a raw material) was a monopoly. Now the entire import duty on it has been made free. For this, the industry thanks the PM, Finance Minister and Textiles Minister. Due to this move, the rate of polyester rate will become low and the chances of getting polyester at the international market rate is high”.

Talking about China’s current plight, he said that due to coronavirus’ impact, textile industry has been affected much. In this period, Indian could fill the world’s textile needs and there could be a 20% rise in textile exports in the coming days.
