Although the department organises two to three student workshops every year, this is the first time, the sessions are live streamed. One can view the live streamed videos at the watch area of the facebook id printing technology avinuty. The 60 participants of the workshop included students of M.A Mass communication and Diploma in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, apart from students of Printing Technology.

The keynote speaker, R.Senthilkanth, Plant Head-South Zone, The Hindu, gave a first-hand overview of  Offset technologies – both sheet-fed and web, touching up to aspects of components, operations, quality and maintenance.

The Afternoon session was handled by Dr.A.Arulmozhi, Associate Professor of the Department, wherein she explained the practical aspects operating offset machines, use of inks, chemicals, blankets and paper. During the latter half of the session, the participants were taken to the department’s new printing press, for a demonstration of the machine and its components.

The second day was involved in batches of students, experiencing the various stages of offset printing workflow. In one session, the participants learnt to graphic design a calendar using CoralDraw and in the other, they worked on the AutoPrint 1510 Colt, single colour offset machine and printed a single colour calendar that they designed. Each participant carried home a printed calendar, an experience they will cherish much longer. Calendar Printing was done with polymaster plate and then a sample design was printed using CTP so as to make out the pros and cons of both image carriers.

On the third day, the participants were taken to AutoPrint Machine Manufacturers Ltd., a leading printing machine manufacturer in India, not only to see and understand the making of machines but also to showcase the splendour of the printing/allied industry.
