Focuses on “Disaster Mitigation & Management”

The Department of Civil Engineering of KPR Institute of Engineering and Technology conducted a National Seminar on “Disaster Mitigation and Management” recently.

The Chief Guests for the seminar were Dr. K. V. Jayakumar, Professor (Higher Administrative Grade) of Civil Engineering and Dean (International Relations & Alumni Affairs) National Institute of Technology, Warangal and Dr. R. Ilangovan, Former Chief Engineer PWD, Vice Chairman, Tamil Nadu Water Resources Development Cell, Chennai.

Dr. K. V. Jayakumar elucidated the importance of disaster preparedness plan and explained the conceptual framework of Disaster Management. He educated and elaborated the skills required for carrying out search and rescue and first aid amongst the vulnerable community.

In the afternoon session Dr. R. Ilangovan created awareness to students and faculties about the role of community in the pre as well a post disaster scenario through case studies. He spoke on the needed awareness of the chronological phases of natural disaster response and refugee relief operations through practical examples. He suggested the students to explore avenues for advancements and future trends in the domain of civil construction to control impacts during and after disaster.

Dr. A. K. Priya, Associate Professor, Department of Civil Engineering, KPR institute of Engineering and Technology took over the session and discussed about the climatic change and its impact on environment. An interaction session was held and queries from members and clarification were discussed with many examples.  Nearly 150 participants from our college and from various colleges attended the workshop.
