IPA brings very affordable Aerators to City

Plans to save 6 crore liters of water in Coimbatore this year

When it comes to wasting water, there is no pointing finger; we all are guilty and we have an equal responsibility to save water. T.Manickam, Chairman, Indian Plumbing Association (IPA), during a media interaction, said that there is a lot of energy and efforts involved in saving, preserving, transporting and supplying water and when a person irresponsibly spends it, it is a loss of not just water but the efforts of many people.  One of the major places where water is guiltlessly wasted is in homes.

IPA is an association that has Plumbing engineers, contractors, consultants, architects, water-tech experts, building developers as its members.

Taking up the responsibility of providing solution and guidance to use water efficiently and responsibly, IPA’s Coimbatore Chapter organized a briefing session on 24.7.2019 in Hotel Hash 6, where they introduced their ‘I Save Water’ campaign and a Neoperl’s Aerators – a small device which when attached to the taps and showers, cuts the need for high quantity of water as it turns water into foam and removes dust/dirt more effectively.

Neoperl is an international company that develops solutions that could aid in water conservation. A normal aerator costs Rs.150 in the online market but IPA, as part of its share to reduce water wastage has brought the aerators from Neoperl to just Rs.15.  This initiative has been made so that every house can reduce their water wastage.

Manickam said, “presently, the water requirement of the city is 247 million liters a day and the current gap in supply and demand is only set to increase. In the next 5 years, he gap will grow by 25%. As a part of our plans to save water, we wish to educate the public on use of aerators which will save water to the tune of almost 40%. We will make these aerators available to the public at strategic locations across the city.”

He mentioned that IPA’s chief objective is to save about 130 crore liters of water in 2019 and through the I Save Water campaign it is stepping up its commitment.  As a first step IPA-Coimbatore will give 1000 Aerators to government run educational, medical institutions and public utility area. The public can call 99655 74737 to ask for the whereabouts of obtaining these aerators and any other queries.
