Hindusthan College’s Bimbam 2019 inaugurated

The Department of Visual Communication of Hindusthan College of Arts Science (HICAS) is conducting BIMBAM 2019 – a South India Level Short Film Fest. The inaugural of the event was held in the mini theatre of the college. Sivaram Mony, Director/Editor, MatchBox and Bilahari, Director, Allu Ramendran were the Guests of Honor.

Since 2005, Bimbam has been the platform to showcase the talent of students and the youth in various fields of Visual Communication such as Film Making, Photography, Fine Arts.

Before the inauguration, the gathering paid respects to the soul of legendary Tamil Film Director Mahendran. A.Charles, HoD, Dept.of Visual Communication, HICAS welcomed the gathering. He stated that he feels proud to have the presence of both the guests, particularly director Sivaram Mony due to the fact that he was a competitor in Bimbam 2009 and his film won the Best Short Film Award. He said he expects the same to happen with the current students/youngsters, to win here and be back her as guests.

He highlighted that during this event, the students have not used plastic products, chiefly to preserve nature and also as a way of adhering to the rules of government. We found that they have used papers, cardboard sheets, wood, plaster of Paris and gunny sack.

A.Ponnusamy, Principal, HICAS offered Felicitation. He congratulated the Department for organizing such a productive event that can give opportunities to youngsters. “Through programs like this, students can share their knowledge and perspectives with their peers also”, he said.

He emphasized the value of the field of Media, calling it both a respectable and powerful field. He wanted the students to discover, update their skills required for their future careers and be dynamic.

Sivaram Mony, addressed the students next and said it felt like an homecoming to him as it was the place he won such a memorable award. “I always put my award won at Bimbam 2009 first in resume whenever I apply in a movie production house”, he said.

Bilahari, in his address, expressed his joy in being here and he wished to view the films and interact with the film-makers.

Before the end of inaugural, Prof.Subramaniam, of Visual Communication Dept., as a mark of respect to Late Director Mahendran, touched upon the glimpses of his life of. He said, “Mahendran redefined the fundamentals of Tamil Cinema. His role in removing the artificiality that existed in the yesteryears’  films are phenomenal”. He wanted the attendees who are aspiring to be directors to watch Mahendran’s films.

With this the inaugural came to an end. Following this, we learned that out of the 40+ short films that had made entry, the best 12 would be aired before the Jury Panel comprising of Alumni, faculty and 2 guests. Prize winners’ names will be announced later.
