Skill Development Program for Agri. Graduates at TNAU

A one day Hands-on–Training program on “High-Throughput Quantification of Reactive Oxygen Species Scavenging Enzymes in Plants” was organized by the Department of Crop Physiology, TNAU, Coimbatore recently to improve the students’ skill in quantifying the antioxidant enzymes.

Jeyakumar, Professor and Head gave the introductory remarks and he emphasized that the quantification of enzymes that scavenges reactive oxygen species through various methods will be useful in screening plants for various biotic and abiotic stresses.

V.Geethalakshmi, Director (Crop Management) in the felicitation address highlighted the role Crop Physiologists in improving the crop productivity under extreme environmental conditions.  J.S.Kennedy, Dean, School of Post Graduate Studies motivated the students to develop their skill by getting this type capacity building program.

M. Kalyanasundaram, Dean (Agriculture) stated that the exposure of plants to stresses such as drought, high temperature, salinity and high light intensity, pests and pathogens, tend to produce more reactive oxygen species (ROS) that damages cell membrane and death of tissues.
