PSG Polytechnic hosts Polytech Day 2019

The Students Union of PSG Polytechnic College organised Polytech Day 2019 recently. R.Chellappan, M.D., M/s. SWELECT Energy Systems Limited was the Chief Guest. R.Jai Hari Krishna, Vice Chairperson, Students Union, PSG Polytechnic College welcomed the gathering. The activities of the Students Union was presented by U.M.Tamil Selvan, Chairperson of the Union. B.Giriraj, Principal, PSG Polytechnic College presented the Annual Report. He highlighted the academic, sports, extension activities, club activities, scholarship, alumni association activity, various community development and Skill Development programs done during the academic year.

R.Rudramoorthy, Principal, PSG Tech delivered the Presidential Address. He said PSG Polytechnic College has given more entrepreneurs and the Management is in plans to expand the college. To the students he said, there are few things they need to do make themselves employable. He pointed out that in the last two to three decades , the industry has become highly sophisticated and automated. He stressed that there is requirement for highly technically qualified manpower in the industry but as the times are changing the students must have enough technical skills. At this juncture he pointed that PSG Polytechnic College has more practical courses than theory courses. He wished them all to develop their unique skills. During the program, Explore, the Annual Magazine of the college was released by P.Radhakrishnan, Director, PSG IAS and its copies was received by Deans of PSG Tech and PSG Polytechnic Colleges.

Radhakrishnan then offered felicitation. He said ” We are going through an age that is completely different and the education system must be able to adjust to the times. If engineering is taught in the same conventional way, then the employability will be low. The world is undergoing through changes and education should too”. He wanted every student to have dialogue with industry to know more of what is expected and bridge the gap. R.Chellappan, The Chief Guest addressed the gathering. He greeted everyone and he made it a request to all the students to never stop learning post their college. He then mentioned that how his life transformed when he became a professional. He highlighted how his digi electronic measuring device venture – Numeric was able to sell equipment to Walmart. He wished the students not to dilute their core engineering studies but at the same time acquire knowledge from whatever field they like to. “Dont limit your knowledge in a narrow bandwidth”

He said mere text book knowledge won’t do in the present today. He said when the students were children, they lived in a dependent phase, when they grew up older, they entered an independent phase. But now, they who are about to graduate in a few days and become employees will have to be inter-dependent which will be a very important culture to make big in the industry.

He said by constant learning in life, the students can appeal to the complex problems of the society and give clear solutions. He wanted them to learn big and know more about the current technologies like IoT, urged them to widen their knowledge base and use libraries as much as possible. This was followed by the announcement of students awards followed by the Best Outgoing Student of the College Award. The students posed with the dignitaries and the event came to an end with the Vote of Thanks.
