 -PM Modi during the Smart India Hackathon at KCT

The 3rd edition of the Smart India Hackathon organised by MHRD, AICTE, Doordarshan, I4C and Persistent systems on was hosted by Kumaraguru College of Technology as nodal centre. This hackathon was sponsored by Cisco, DEVNET, Deloitte, KPIT with Suma Soft as the communication partners.

Forge Forward, one of the ace Start-up Incubation Centres in the country provided the technical support to this event.

Sandeep Tyagi, Director, Human Resources, Samsung Electronics was the Chief Guest of the Inaugural while Alok Prakash Mittal, Member Secretary of AICTE was the Chief Guest of the valedictory event.

This hackathon was 36-hour non-stop digital development competition. Twenty seven teams from various States including Tamil Nadu participated. They worked on solutions to problems in maternal healthcare, child malnutrition, biometric encryption, automation and predictive analysis. These problems were sourced from DI Patna MSME, Human Welfare Association and Shantha Sanofi.

Union Minister for HRD, Prakash Javadekar  and Prime Minister, Sri.Narendra Modi interacted with the participants via video conferencing. Javadekar said SIH is a platform that will help students innovate and integrate their ideas to produce profitable products while PM said the number of students participating in SIH has increased substantially over time and that he wanted to ensure the safety of women and children with the applications of software technology. He firmly stated that, “Only a country that innovates, progresses.”

During the valedictory, the prize and cash awards were given to the winners. Team Alpha Q from Anna University, Kanchipuram bagged the prize of Rs.1 lakh for their work on a web app to buy, sell or dispose old vehicles and car-pooling.

Team Bumble-Bee bagged Rs.75000 for developing an application in the field maternal health care. This team was an all-girls team. Other winners include Team Squadra from IIT Hyderabad, Team Abhyudayaa from Walchand college of Engineering, Maharashtra, Team Zombie Hat from Thadomal Shahani College of engineering, Mumbai who all took home Rs.75,000 while Team COD10TS from Maharashtra Institute of Technology, Team Azukarin from SIES College, Navi Mumbai took home Rs.50,000.
