Have we taught birds to orphan their young ones?

Humans have a history of abandoning the most precious people in their lives without much guilt. Sadly some parents abandon children and some children after growing up and using the resources of their parents, send them out.

This practice has been going on for ages and now it seems the animals and birds have learned this from us. An estimated 2000 flamingo chicks were abandoned by their parents near Kamfers Dam, Kimberley due to lack of water and dryness.

Most of the chicks were just coming out of their egg and new borns. They were dehydrated and very weak when the rescuers from Southern African Foundation for the Conservation of Coastal Birds (SANCCOB) found them.  Some of them needed incubators to keep them warm. The foundation has taken care of the chicks but they need human assistance through volunteer works and financial assistance.

The images of the chicks can easily make our eyes wet. From whom have the parent birds learned this? Was it from us? If this could make us sad, imagine the state of countless children who were orphaned!
