Facebook tightens its grip on Political Advertisements

From Feb 21, Facebook will closely monitor all the ads that have political motivations and will label them with disclaimers titled “Published By” and “Paid for by” to make the political advertisements more transparent.

Social Media is a machine of mass information which is abused to act as a weapon of misinformation. Of all the social media platforms available in India, Facebook is the most popular, sharing its stage with Whatsapp and Instagram all of whom are helmed by billionaire Mark Zuckerberg.

Mark’s Facebook reportedly compromised the U.S. Parliamentary Elections in the past and after the Cambridge Analytica Scandal, Facebook has become very concerned with its security as well proper usage.

The Parliamentary Elections in India will be conducted soon and men helming Facebook are very firm that no organization or individual should exploit Facebook’s service for personal gain or to sabotage others. So if any politically motivated is uploaded and meant for disseminating perspectives, Facebook has taken initiatives to make the viewers know who the publisher for the advertisement is when it reaches the public. Through Shivnath Thukral, Director, Public Policy for India and South Asia, this was learned.
