A journey of Learning & Awareness

Plastic is a boon or ban was the question and of late it seems the latter seems to getting more support with many organizations coming forward in support of the same. Young bloods was the cause of India’s freedom of British and the trend set has reflected time and again at various point of time and this time it was to create an awareness on the ill-effects of plastics. A plastic item takes about 1000 years to decompose out of which the plastic bottles used by us takes about 450 years or more.

Plastic products are common in modern and nobody but we ourselves are to be blamed for it. It is we humans who let it happen years ago but not anymore. These were the thoughts that must have been in the minds of two young men from the team Hashtageco 18 who set out on a road trip from Coimbatore to Leh creating awareness on plastic pollution and meeting people who are working tirelessly to make our India, a plastic free nation. The duration of the ride was 42 days covering a distance of 10,000 kms across 15 states.

Prasanth Ramachandran and Govind, two friends from Coimbatore during their journey met more than 15 people and organizations. The result, it turned out to be a life changing experience which has led them to start a recycling organization. The riders were initially criticized for spending such a huge amount of money on the trip yet it turned out to be fruitful at the end of the day. One of the riders mentions that they didn’t spend much on food and stay as people on the way were kind enough in providing them with both of these.
