Children with autism amaze District Collector!

Children with autism, a serious developmental disorder that impairs the ability to communicate and interact, played musical instruments, sang songs and amazed the audience that included the Coimbatore District Collector Dr.Sameeran, recently.

In connection with World Autism Awareness Day (observed every April 2nd), Kaumaram Prasanthi Special School organizes an awareness program about autism.

The program is also held to show the world what kids with the disorder could achieve with proper training. This year’s program at the school was inaugurated by District Collector Dr.Sameeran who later presented medals and certificates to students who excelled in various fields.

A press release mentioned that Dr.Sameeran had expressed that the program is an example of how special children can be improved by providing them with proper training.

In his address, the collector also suggested to the public to seek medical attention immediately if  parents notice any changes in their child’s physical, mental, or habitual development. Parents with such children need to develop the mental maturity that their child also has potential to excel, he said.

Deepa Mohan Raj, Founder of Kaumaram Prasanthi Special School said through the release that if a child with autism gets proper training between the ages of 2 and 3, that child will be ready to go to regular school.

Kaumara Monastery Chief Athena Kumaragurupara Swamy, District Disability Welfare Officer Vasantha Ramkumar were also present at the event.
