Doctors stress the need to end Tuberculosis

After 2020, we can say that the entire world has gained better knowledge & experience about the dangers of infectious diseases.

Tuberculosis (TB) is also a very dangerous infectious disease that is causing huge loss of life in the world today. Data from WHO shared by PSG Hospitals, Coimbatore- one of the leading hospitals in the city state that approximately 4100 people die each day as a result of TB.

Mayo Clinic, USA – a reputed nonprofit academic medical center says that TB is a potentially serious infectious disease that mainly affects the lungs. The bacteria that cause tuberculosis are spread from person to person through tiny droplets released into the air via coughs and sneezes.

“It has been seen that the COVID-19 pandemic has reversed the progress made in the fight to end TB. TB deaths in 2020 have increased for the first time,” a statement from PSG Hospitals, mentioned.

It has become crucial now to find ways to end this disease, ever than before!.  Stressing the theme of this year’s World TB Day ‘Invest to End TB. Save Lives’, the Staff and Students of PSG IMSR’s Respiratory Medicine Dept. organized a public awareness rally on Thursday.

Staff and Students from PSG College of Pharmacy, PSG College of Nursing and PSG College of Physiotherapy took part in this rally that covered Sowripalayam and GV Residency. The Colleges stressed that more investment will save millions more lives, accelerating the end of the TB epidemic.
