Chief Justice of India names Justice Ramana as Successor!

With the tenure of the 47th Chief Justice of India SA Bobde coming to an end in the final days of April, 2021 the CJI has named Justice Ramana to be his successor.

Justice Bobde succeeded Ranjan Gogoi and became the Chief Justice of India in November 2019 will retire on April 23 2021. Justice Ramana is the next senior-most judge in the Supreme Court after him.

This announcement came from the CJI after the Indian Government had sought his recommendation to name his successor last week.

Justice Ramana was born on August 27, 1957, and he comes from an Agricultural Family. He has held several offices as Judge before his appointment as a Judge of the Supreme Court in Feb 2014.

Prior to that, he served as the Chief Justice of Delhi High Court, and before that he was appointed as a permanent judge of the High Court of his home-state, Andhra Pradesh in 2000. If appointed the next CJI, he will be the CJI till the middle of 2022, as he has tenure till August 26, 2022.
