Book highlights 400+ species of birds in Covai

Admiration for birds is a quality found among lovers of nature. The book aptly titled ‘Birds of Coimbatore-2nd Edition’ is a certainly going to be a treat for the bibliophiles, ornithologists and nature lovers as it features more than 400 species of birds found in Coimbatore district.

The book is authored by Pavendhan, Balaji & Prakash and is brought out by by CII-Young Indians Coimbatore Chapter and Coimbatore Nature Society. It was launched on Friday, the 8th day of Coimbatore Vizha at PSG College of Technology.

The 2nd Edition of the book has added over 92 species that is not seen in the previous edition. A press release mentioned that all the birds featured in the book have accompanying photographs and additional information such as Common name, Tamil name, Scientific name, conservation status, local status, size, description, diet, behavior, distribution and nesting information for resident birds.

One of the interesting highlights of the book is its use of habitat icons and QR codes. Scanning the QR code in your smart phone will take you to a webpage containing bird calls.

The book also features a very interesting introduction to Coimbatore penned by renowned orator and educationist Krishnaraj Vanavarayar.
