Coimbatore Marathon is a success despite the pandemic!

More than 6500 runners across the globe took part in the 8th edition of Coimbatore Marathon which was held during the whole of December 2020.  Considered as one of Coimbatore’s most famous marathons, the premiere event this year overcame the hurdle posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, as it was held as a virtual event.

Regarding the marathon, Ramesh Ponnuswami, Race Director said, “Being the first time on a virtual platform, there were many things our team had to set up from scratch, learn and adapt from similar events from around the world, to ensure we continue to provide a world class marathon experience to all participants.”

The funds raised from this marathon supports many activities of Coimbatore Cancer Foundation- is a registered charitable trust and a research institution providing Counselling and Cancer care support for the patients and their family members since 1991. The proceedings from the event will help fund for Surgery, Chemotherapy, Radiotherapy, Investigations, Bed charges, Rehabilitation & Various Projects.

Dr. T.Balaji, Managing Trustee, Coimbatore Cancer Foundation, said “CCF has now moved into its own premises thus making it more accessible to the community at large. We have launched our dream project Aravanippu – a model Rural Home Care Palliative service, which has been very well received and we are now ready to spread our wings and reach out to more rural communities. We are able to dream bigger, ramp up our services and grow and this has been made possible to a large extent because of the Coimbatore Marathon.”
