A.R.Rahman’s mother Kareema Beegum passed away on Monday in Chennai. Age-related ailments is the cause of her death, according to sources.
The musician drew great strength and courage from his mother, which he shared during a virtual discussion with singer Sudha Raghunathan in September 2020. He called his mother as his Superstar. He stated that she takes wonderful and bold decisions which generally people would hesitate to take. He called her as a very pious and intelligent woman.
He shared that his mom’s guidance had helped him greatly in taking many big decisions. Recollecting one such moment, Rahman told Sudha that when he was in the nascent stage of his studio’s development, she advised him not to partner with anyone.
Rahman said that he had no resources to buy instruments and one person was interested to partner. Listening to his mother, he with held the decision to partner. “I don’t know why she said that. But it turned out that it was a great decision.”
Rahman’s mother’s funeral will be held today.
