Survivors Speak : Take precautions but don’t be afraid of COVID-19

While the threat of novel coronavirus is still at large, we can still keep ourselves safer by following all the precautions that the government and health ministry has prescribed. Speaking to some of the survivors of COVID-19, it was clear that good care, self-quarantine and encouragement from our dear ones can really help in recovering.

“Doctors, Family, Colleagues- kept my confidence up!”

The first survivor we spoke to, is a police officer. He was one among the 5 cops from Podanur Police Station, who was found to be COVID-19 positive on April, 2020. “When my results came positive, I was afraid because there are chances for me to have affected my family. When their test-results came negative, I was very much relieved. The treatment from the doctors and nurses, the words of encouragement from my wife, kid, senior police officials, District Collector all helped me”

“I underwent open-heart surgery in the past and for the last 7 years, I am taking medicines. I have recovered and I believe that my recovery will give hope to all others. A female colleague of mine who was also affected by the virus said ESI Hospital is delivering the best treatment for COVID-19.  We have good hospitals in our State and a very supportive Government as well. I am back in service and I tell people to wear mask, eat healthy food that boosts immunity and travel only when needed”

“Homemade food is healthy; provides needed immunity”

We spoke with a COVID-19 recovered female police officer. She too was worried more about her sickness impacting her children and family, than her own life. “Knowing that they are safe, gave me strength. For 15 days I was away from my family, and they were in my mother’s house. Family’s love and support was huge. The doctors said that I have the needed immunity to defend myself from the virus. Hearing that was a big relief.”

“As a mother, I would urge all the parents to see that their children are properly taking food at the right time. Don’t let them skip their breakfast or any meal. Homemade food is nutritious, and if children, especially girl-children, eat them without skipping, they can be healthy enough to withstand threats like this. ”
