In the next few months, popular skin-cream Fair & Lovely will no longer be available under that name. The brand’s parent company Hindustan Unilever announced on Thursday that it will be re-branded into Glow & Lovely, which it sees as the next step in the evolution of its skin care portfolio to a more inclusive vision of Positive Beauty. Meanwhile, the men’s brand – Fair & Handsome will be available as ‘Glow & Handsome’.
A petition by a youth from Mumbai – Chandana Hiran #AllShadesAreLovely in Change.Org is the game-changer here. Her petition asked HUL to be more inclusive in their products and show all shades are lovely.
In her petition she mentioned “Fair And Lovely is the oldest and most trusted brand by millions in our country. But, they have time and again sold to us the idea of dark-skin being inferior and ugly.”
With enough noise, Chandana’s petition made HUL hear the voice of the thousands Loud & Clear. The petition got signed by more than 20,000 people now, and HUL’s announcement is a small-victory for the people of different shades.
