Krishna College enhances incomes of 2 villages, honoured by AICTE

AICTE recognises the engineering colleges for doing the rural development services in its adopted villages, and honors the institutions with Utkrisht Sansthan Vishwakarma Award. Sri Krishna College of Engineering and Technology received the award and stands third nationally and first in Tamil Nadu.

The college received the award for the exemplary implementation of the project on ‘How to enhance the income of Villages” through intervention of technology and management practices by adopting two villages namely Perur Chettipalayam and Arumughagoundanoor in Coimbatore.

A survey was conducted in these villages and it was found that malnutrition, lack of hygiene and open defecation were the challenges faced by the villagers. To overcome these challenges, the college implemented the key strategies to upgrade the lifestyle of the residents of the village and empower them with income generation.

Several awareness programmes were conducted to sensitize the villagers on dengue awareness, sanitation and hygiene. Training programmes for rural women in manufacturing millet based value added food products and Women Entrepreneurship were also carried out under full swing. Several farmers and women were benefited by this project and the income of the village has been improved.
