Brain-dead Teen posthumously saves 9 lives

R.Dhanuhaas,an eighteen year old boy who was a resident of Sowriyapalayam met with an accident near Trichy Road on 17.2.2020.

He was immediately taken to a nearby private hospital for first aid treatment, then after to KMCH Avanashi Road Coimbatore, for specialized treatment. Dhanuhass’s body failed to respond much to the treatment and he was declared brain dead on 18.02.2020.

Dhanuhaas’ parents Rajesh Kannan and Mahalakshmi came forward generously to donate his organs.

Multi Organ Transplant Surgeons and team from KMCH harvested Lungs, Heart Valve, Kidneys, Liver,  Eyes, Skin and Bone from the body of the deceased in accordance with the regulations prescribed by the Transplant Authority, Govt. of Tamil Nadu.

The harvested organs i.e. One Kidney was transplanted at KMCH. One Kidney, Eyes, Skin and Bone were sent to a private hospital at Coimbatore. Heart Valve and Lungs were sent to a private hospital in Chennai while the liver was sent to a private hospital at Madurai. The family members felt proud that his organs gave new lease of lives to 9 needy people.

Acknowledging their gesture, Dr. Nalla G Palaniswami, Chairman, KMCH thanked the family for their bold and timely decision to donate their son’s vital organs. He added that this act of generosity will bring in more awareness towards this noble cause.

The deceased is survived by his Father Rajesh Kannan and Mother Mahalakshmi  living at  TNHB Colony, Rajiv Gandhi Nagar, Sowripalayam, Coimbatore.
