Aspiring Engineers learn amazing technology at Yukta 2020

Beyond academic-requirement, there are lot of expectations on the student community these days. Their potential is limitless and to tap it, a special platform is required apart from the regular academic events, to enable the students to unlock their curiosity, competitive spirit and creativity.

Understanding the need for such an event, PSG iTech conducts Yukta/Yuktaha – a National Level Symposium which proved certainly to not be the kind of symposiums you would see around. To give evidence to it, there was TVS Apache Pro Performance Stunt Show on the one side while on the other side of the lawn there were fantastic song performance by Super Singer contestants Tanuj Menon, Soundariya, Sam Vishal. There was a huge street fest going on the other side with dishes that tickle the taste buds.

And while these and much more fun filled activities went with loud cheers, the workshops and paper presentations that were organised separately by Dept of Mech, Civil, Computer Science, ECE and EEE. Through these workshops, important engineering concepts, new and revolutionary approaches like IoT, Machine Learning and Robotics were inculcated and tasks were given to students.

Soil testing is crucial before constructing a building.  A Civil Engineer is expected to know soil testing. If the test is not done properly, then the constructed building may be very vulnerable. In this workshop, the participants experiment it.

Staad Pro is a software that helps in designing a building-plan into a proper structure. Only a structural designers can give approval for a building plan.  A structural designer decides what type of TMT bars should be used, the depth of beam etc. Staad Pro will be very useful for students to become structural engineers. During the workshop, handling this software was conveyed to the students in the workshop. Apart from this Non-destructive tests to identify the strength of a building, were discussed in the workshops.

MS Project is a planning software that can help the builder manage time, expenses and helps in managing data much more effective.

In the workshop organized by ECE , students learned how to create a prototype for their product, like a gadgets. Today there are many robotic-process done in industries and in hospitals too. The students engaged in understanding the OS for Robots. This will help them in developing an Operating System for Robots that their company (in future) would require.

Internet of Things (IoT) will become very much needed in a smart-city. Sharing data between machines and People is possible through IoT. The students learned about these in the workshop.

A robot in a warehouse goes on its own, execute a work and return back to its base. Mini projects on such robot’s movements were tasked for the participants to undertake. A small 4-wheeled robot was given to teams. They were asked to program it to go to a location, do the work and return. This kind of workshop was organized by the Dept of EEE.

In many industries, automation is becoming more of a regular component. Automation related projects are done using Programmable Logic Controllers in the industries. Seimens S7 1200 is a state of the art equipment that is available at PSG iTech.  This machine was used while educating the participants in the workshop.

When a heater needs to be turned off after it reaches a specific temperature, we need technology that could smartly make decisions for us. Such tech is possible with ‘Embedded Systems’. The department’s workshop also focused on this technology.

Developing android based apps, utilizing Machine Learning for personal and industrial requirements were focused in the workshop organized by the department of Computer Science and Engineering. Machine learning implemented in product manufacturing and cost management has boosted many companies. The participants learned more about ML in the workshop.
