School children to sensitize elders on Road Safety

UYIR launches Project Kutty Cops

Following the continuing success of project Uyir, the brains behind it have announced the launch of Kutty Cops Project- a concept that wishes to make Every school child a policeman at home. It was inaugurated by Sravan Kumar, IAS, Coimbatore Corporation Commissioner at the auditorium in Ganga Hospital on 21st October 2019.

The inauguration took place in the presence of Dr Sanjay Jayavarthanavelu, Chairman; Dr S Rajasekaran, Managing Trustee and other senior members of Uyir.
40 schools spread over the city of Coimbatore took part in the launch. These schools are distributed on all the main arterial roads and will effectively increase the network and spread of road safety programs in the city.   Each school will have a group of staff members who are dedicated to the project. School children will be segregated into two batches.  Classes III to V and VI to VIII. To help the children work effectively and easily on this project, UYIR has come out with a booklet which has categorized the entire year long activities and this will be conducted in a continuous manner.

The projects will be of interest to the children so that it buys their involvement. They will be sensitized to the importance of road rules, the problem of road traffic accidents, the injuries that they can cause and how many families can be disrupted.

They will conduct many in-campus activities to ensure all parents and the elders in the family who are coming to drop the children are following fastening seat belts and wearing helmets. They will also try to ensure that apart from the elders, children also will wear helmets.

Most importantly, they all will take an oath towards road safety and will get an oath and a promise from their parents and elders at home that they will follow road safety measures diligently. They will also ensure that the elders at home wear helmets, fasten seat belts, do not drive rashly, do not jump traffic lights and will not use mobiles while driving.

Dr. S.Rajasekaran, Managing Trustee of UYIR said ‘Every house cannot have a policeman but every home has children. If children become the policeman at home, and parents have enforcement from their children, then adopting road safety measures will be voluntary and complete.  It is obvious that this will be one of the major events for UYIR which we hope will be game-changing for our city’.
