Declining fertility among couple on rise in Covai – Dr. Latha

Nova IVF Fertility is harnessing the power of advanced Science and helping raising awareness around fertility preservation to help childless couples conceive clinically

Recently, there have been several news report around aged couples opting for IVF in South India along with younger couples in their fertile age who are unable to conceive naturally. This is a clear indicator of the fact that fertility rate is declining amongst couples in the country.

Today 1 in 6 couples face difficulty in conceiving naturally, however, lack the awareness that infertility is a disease which in most cases can be treated with the right medical intervention. Today, medical experts are worried about the reducing fertility potential in both men and women.

Discussing the importance of fertility preservation at a press meet held on 25.9.2019, Dr Latha, Fertility Consultant, Nova IVF Fertility, Coimbatore commented, “Education and enhanced awareness of the effect of age, environmental factors lifestyle and dietary factors on fertility is essential in counselling the patient who desires pregnancy. For instance, let’s take age as an example.

Women older than 35 years should receive expedited evaluation and treatment after 6 months of failed attempts to conceive or earlier, if clinically indicated. In such cases, Fertility preservation is primarily focused on saving gametes in young women who run the risk of losing the entire pool of ovarian follicles”.

Other treatments:

  • Women with malignancy or other illnesses that require treatments that have a negative effect on future fertility may be candidates for urgent IVF and cryopreservation of embryos.
  • Oocyte cryopreservation is a viable option for women having no male partner who ask for fertility preservation either because of severe malady, an emerging premature ovarian failure, healthy aging women, and those who anticipate delayed childbearing.
  • In men, cryopreservation of sperm is the gold standard procedure for preserving fertility.
