James Cook University forays into Indian Market

Delegates of James Cook University (JCU), a 48 year old prestigious university in Townsville,Australia visited India  and highlighted its distinctive merits to several members of different universities.

In Coimbatore, several college representatives held a discussion with the members of JCU and we had an audience with the latter as well to know more about the Univ.

Vignesh Vijayaraghavan, Head International Recruitment, JCU addressed the press and answered the questions raised. He said that the university is one of the Top 10 in Australia which had 2500+ international students in its campus of which 10% are Indians. “In JCU, we make sure that students get personalized attention. While other educational institutions and universities run on an 80:1 on a student-teacher ratio, here at JCU it is 15:1.

Coming to the courses we learned there are 8 Diploma programs, over 40 under graduate courses and over 30 Post-Graduate courses beside Research and Doctorate programs. The minimum fee for a year for a course will be 29,000 Australian Dollars (Rs. 15 Lakhs) but we came to know through Vignesh that students will pay they need not pay the entire Rs.15 Lakhs at a single shot rather remit it on “per semester basis”  (Rs.7.5 for a semester).

Talking about the employability rate, he said 86% of the final year students land in jobs and the university has received 5 Stars for graduate Job Success and 5 Stars for Full Time Job Employment from The Good Universities Guide -2018.

Another interesting announcement made in the meeting was the university offers a scholarship of 700 Australian Dollars every month to the students who study  in JCU if they have obtained 70% in their Bachelors program and 80% in their HSE (12th)

Vignesh briefed that JCU gives its students the opportunity to land in core related jobs. This is achieved by the work integrated learning module in their courses. By this, the students get industry exposure and up-skill themselves before they land in their careers.
