City youth wins Commonwealth Youth Awards

No Food Waste is an edible food recovery and food waste management organization collecting the untouched edible surplus food from weddings, parties and other food sources to feed the needy and hungry people.

The initiative was started in Coimbatore with the vision of making the “World Hunger-Free”. Padmanaban Gopalan, Founder, ‘No Food Waste’ received the Commonwealth Youth Award 2019 for Asia Region in Commonwealth’s Headquarters in London. He won the award for his work towards achieving the UN’s Sustainable Development Goal (SDG-02) of Zero Hunger.

Every year the Commonwealth Youth Awards for Excellence in Development Work recognize the exceptional contribution of young people, aged 15-29, of 53 Commonwealth countries who are leading initiatives in view of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). Sharing his happiness, Mr.Padmanaban Gopalan said at the ceremony, “There are no words to express pain of hunger. This award means a lot to me and it is dedicated to all my hundreds of volunteers who help with our mission of feed people, not landfills.
