If you don’t risk, you won’t gain anything – D.Balasundaram, Chairman, Coimbatore Capital Limited, Coimbatore

The Alumni Association of PSG Tech (that includes both PSG College of Technology and PSG Polytechnic College) organized the Induction of final year Diploma, UG & PG Student of the Colleges into the Association, recently.

The program was held in the Assembly Hall of PSG College of Technology. D.Balasundaram, who is the Chairman of Coimbatore Capital Limited, Coimbatore and one of the most successful alumni of the college was the Chief Guest.

D.Nandakumar, President, PSG Tech Alumni Association welcomed the gathering. He mentioned that Alumni Association of PSG Tech has 50,000 members and 13 Chapters in India, US, UK and Europe. He appreciated the final year students who took part in the Induction and made it a request to them to be in touch with their Alma Mater.

R.Rudramoorthy, Principal, PSG College of Technology delivered the Presidential Address. He conveyed to the gathering that this Induction Ceremony is a formal way of bringing the soon-to be-alumni into the association before they graduate from the college.

He advised the students that the world they are going to step in is one full of competition where parents will have little role to play than they did earlier. “Parents will give emotional support and financial assistance but you need a group who is on par with you”

He said the students who will take a whole new journey in their next phase will need introductions, support and advises and this is where the Alumni Network will be of tremendous help.

He welcomed them all to the Alumni Association and requested them to keep in touch with the college through the Association.

He said to the final year students of the College that they can contribute to their Alma Mater in two ways; they can provide financial assistance to the needy students who would join in PSG College of Technology in future. “When you can afford to pay for someone, you can contribute through PSG Alumni Association”

He asked the students to bring in the knowledge and requirements they find in the Industry once they become professionals. “GRD wanted the industry-institution interaction”, he highlighted.

He further counseled them that job is just one thing the students could pursue post their graduation.  He said they can aspire to become entrepreneurs, pursue higher studies, try their luck in civil services and much more but cautioned them that their first job won’t be their last. He wanted them to know which profession will suit them the best and build their career accordingly. He concluded by greeting them to the Association once more.

The Chief Guest, D.Balasundaram addressed the gathering next. He applauded the activities done by PSG Tech’s Alumni Association, claiming that it has been a role model to other colleges in Tamil Nadu. He recalled his fond memories of the college. “In 1966 when I graduated, altogether there were just 200 graduates. The campus had just 1000 students.” He stated that in those early days there were no technology like that we see today, still PSG College of Technology produced students with outstanding merit who went on to become the best.

He recalled many notable alumni of the past from PSG College of Technology and PSG Polytechnic College who have reached the apex in 25 years. He inspired the PSG Polytechnic students saying that their field has produced great leaders who have soared to serve the world from here. He instilled in them the confidence and expressed his believe that they who are about to be inducted into the Alumni Association will also serve their college, their district, state, country and the World as well.

D.Balasundaram then went on to energize the minds of the future-graduates. He briefly touched upon five precepts that could guide them in their journey in the professional world. He first wanted the students to know that the technology in today’s world is changing unlike the period of his time in which the technology was stable.  “You will have 50 years of career ahead of you” he cautioned and wanted them all to keep reading, honing their knowledge and skills. He advised them to not think that with the current qualification they can run their life completely. He said they will not have the luxury of keeping one job throughout their life. “You have to continuously keep reading”, he suggested.

He wanted the students to be focused about the present more than they do about the future. “In the long run we are all dead” he quoted the famous Economist John Maynard Keynes. He suggested them to give their best in their present endeavors so that their future will naturally become the best.

Risk-Taking is another precept he wanted the young minds to know. He suggested the students to take hold of a new opportunity and come out of their comfort zones if it demands them to be. He wished them to disregard the advices people give to make sure the youth are in their safe zones when they are confused whether to take a leap of faith or not. He said “If you don’t risk, you won’t gain anything”. “Every gain has an element of gain”, he extended.

He then counseled them to avoid comparing themselves with others. He told them that if they are happy and comfortable with what they do, he requested them to keep doing it.

His last word of advice was to the students was to maintain a proper balance between official life and personal life. He said he has seen many great men become wrecked because they failed to keep a proper work-life balance; so he advised them to find harmony between their office and home.

Prior to concluding he wished them all the very best and requested them to be in touch with their friends and PSG Tech’s Alumni Association. He wanted them to give back to the college that shaped them in all aspects of academics and personality.

After his address, B.Giriraj, Principal, PSG Polytechnic College announced the Best Outgoing Students Award to the select final year students of PSG College of Technology & PSG Polytechnic College. One best student from every department who has excelled in curricular, co-curricular and extra-curricular was honored during the Induction Ceremony.

The Alumni Coordinators for the 2019 batch were later announced. M.Arasu, General Secretary, PSG Tech Alumni Association proposed the Vote of Thanks.
