S.Anandhakumar was aged 51. He worked as a sports master in Pethanaickanur Govt School. He was a resident of Sangampalayam, Pollachi. On 07.12.18, around 9a.m. he met with an accident near Pethanaickanur. He was immediately taken to Pollachi GH for first aid treatment. For specialized treatment, he was then taken to KMCH, Avanashi Road Coimbatore. During the treatment he didn’t respond much and was declared brain dead on 09.12.18. Following his death, his wife Santhi and his brother Sakthivel came forward generously to donate his organs.
On the morning of 9th, December 2018 the doctor’s team harvested Anandhakumar’s Kidneys, Liver, Heart valve, Lungs, Eyes, Bone and skin. The harvested organs i.e. Liver and One Kidney were transplanted at KMCH, Heart valve and Lungs were sent to a private hospital at Chennai, while another was sent to a private hospital in Coimbatore. Eyes, Skin and Bone were sent to different private hospitals at Coimbatore. The family members felt proud to know that Anandhakumar’s organs have given a new lease of lives to 9 needy people.
Honoring their gesture, Dr. Nalla G Palaniswami, Chairman, KMCH thanked the family for their bold and timely decision on organ donation. He added that this act of generosity will bring in more awareness towards this noble cause.
