Kofi Annan – A Lantern of Peace, fades away

Former UN Secretary General and Nobel Peace Prize Winner, Kofi Annan passed away on Saturday in Switzerland. Kofi was 80 and he died due to illness in the early hours of Saturday. Kofi served as the Secretary General of the UN for two continuous terms; from 1996 to 2006. A champion of peace and a tireless workhorse for harmony, Annan, after the end of his tenure in the UN, created his own not-for-profit foundation called Kofi Annan Foundation and did humanitarian and empowering works through it. Kofi had honor as the first African to head the UN and it was during his time as the chief of UN, the Human Rights Council and Peacebuilding Commission were established. His role in the creation of Global Fund to fight Aids, Malaria and Tuberculosis was phenomenal. Kofi worked hard for world peace and he cared so much for the welfare of the Afro-Americans and Africans. Related to his death, the official statement from Kofi Anna Foundation stated the sad demise of Annan“It is with immense sadness that the Annan family and the Kofi Annan Foundation announce that Kofi Annan, former Secretary General of the United Nations and Nobel Peace Laureate, passed away peacefully on Saturday 18th August after a short illness.” Though his earthly existence is no more, he is and will be remembered by countless many as the man who lived, strived and promoted world peace.
