Coimbatoreans begin to bridge the digital divide!

The usage of Digital technologies in education system has reshaped the way a student learns a subject. E-learning has become the primary medium at present; and without the tools to learn that way, education halts for a child.

The Coimbatore Vizha’s 13th edition has introduced an initiative called ‘Gift a Device’ under which this obstacle can be shattered, if we all can spare a device and help bridge the digital divide between the privileged and under-privileged children.

The public can contribute gadgets like Phone/Tablet/Laptop/PC, that are in good condition and for which they don’t have any use.

The minimum technical specifications for donation of gadgets are mentioned in the Vizha’s website. If you have a device to spare, you can drop it at ‘On The Go’ – a restaurant in Race Course; That’s Y Food – a North Indian restaurant in R.S.Puram or at Oxyzone Adventure Park in Peelamedu. Till Jan 10th, the devices can be dropped off at these centers.

The Vizha organizers shared via press release that on the first day, as many as about 15 devices were received and more are expected in the coming days. They shared that this initiative is also an E-Cycle Program where the unutilized programs are put to reuse, and not allowed to turn into an E-Waste.

Meanwhile, several other virtual events such as Art street, Character illustration workshop, The Cute corner – Fancy Dress Competition, Coimbatore through lens, Coimbatore Vizha Marathon, Cyclothon, Happy Me and Students by Nitya Gurukula & NG Chandran Charities, Urban Vision by Sasi Creative School of Architecture, Fabric Painting at VLB Janakiammal College of Arts & Science, Young Readers of Coimbatore Event by The Coimbatore Book Club, Photography Contest by Sri Ramakrishna College of Arts & Science for Women and Chemical Free Living event by Siruthuli took place.
