ICAR ranks TNAU as 8th Best Agri University

Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) has been ranked as the 8th Best Agricultural University in the country by Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) for the year 2019.

This is a massive improvement from previous year for the varsity as it stood at the 33rd position then. “This achievement is due to the intensive efforts taken to restore the ranking through various audacious measures on a war footing basis which gradually slipped from 7th in 2016, 27th in 2017 and 33rd in 2018”, said  Prof. Kumar, Vice Chancellor of TNAU.

A press-release mentioned that the University has attained 8th rank among the 67 agricultural institutes, 4th among the State Agricultural Universities and 1st among the Southern Agricultural Universities.

Research publications & fellowships, strategic academic planning, concentration on external agency funded projects schemes, patent filing, provision of intensive motivation to the young scientists  and several extension activities (Radio programs, TV Programs, imparting technical skill) that benefit the farmers have added significant strength in the varsity getting this ranking.

TNAU said that this ranking will help it attract funds, rope in more International students for admissions and more avenues for collaborative research and farmers’ empowerment. Vice Chancellor reassured that TNAU will be work towards getting ranked among the top three institutions in the coming future.
