7.5% reservation applicable only for students completing entire schooling at Govt.Schools

The Madurai Bench of Madras High Court said on Wednesday that the 7.5 % reservation for Government School students who have cleared NEET and aspiring to pursue medical education is applicable only to those students who have completed their entire schooling in Government Schools.

Father of an aspiring medical student from Tanjore filed a petition with the court that his daughter who had studied 1st standard to 5th standard in Panchayat Union Primary school, and continued in another Government School to pursue her 7th standard all the way to +2 should be given a seat under the 7.5% reservation quota.

The girl had not studied in a Government School for her 6th grade. The petition was brought before the Madurai High Court on Wednesday. Judges Kirubakaran and Pugazhendi, after hearing the argument from the petitioner’s lawyer, said that only students who had pursued their whole school education in Government Schools are eligible for studying medical courses under this reservation.

The counselling for medical courses commenced on November 18 . The Health Minister Dr.C.Vijayabaskar reportedly said that this year, 405 government school students will get the opportunity to study medicine.

Meanwhile, sources said that the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has deferred the registration process for second round of NEET-UG counselling. The round 2 registration process will now begin from November 20.
