The US’ Department of Energy has sought the innovative ideas from private sector to build nuclear power-plants that could work on the Moon and Mars. The objective is to build a nuclear-powered energy system that could allow humans to live for longer periods on other celestial bodies.
“Small nuclear reactors can provide the power capability necessary for space exploration missions of interest to the Federal government,” the Energy Department wrote in the notice published Friday. The ideas from the private sectors will be reviewed by Idaho National Laboratory, NASA and US Energy Department.
