The Rotary Club of Coimbatore Metropolis acknowledged the illustrious accomplishments of Rtn.Dr.C.Palanivelu , Chairman, GEM Hospital, Coimbatore who was honored by the British House of Commons for his original innovations in the field of Laparoscopy and felicitated him, recently.
For his phenomenal breakthroughs and achievements in the said field, Dr.C.Palanivelu was felicitated by the Club at the Felicitating Event held at the Tango Hall of Vivanta Surya.Kris Gopalakrishnan, Co-Founder& former Vice Chairman& MD, Infosys was the Chief Guest. Rtn.K.K.Chugh,President of Rotary Club of Coimbatore Metropolis welcomed the gathering. He said Rtn. Dr.C.Palanivelu represents the high values of Rotary. “A doctor doesn’t set out with the intention to do something great and the result of his wish and society at large makes him great” echoed Chugh and congratulated the doctor.
A video presentation highlighting the humble beginnings and the Himalayan achievements of Dr.C.Palanivelu was aired to the audience which received a round of applause. A congratulatory plaque was presented to Dr.Palanivelu by the President of the club.
The Guest of Honor Dr.A.Muruganathan, Past President, Association of Physicians of India and Tamil Nadu IMA offered felicitation first. He said a good doctor should have knowledge, skill and attitude; and Dr.Palanivelu is the amalgamation of all these three which has taken him to great heights. He lauded the assortment of awards won by the doctor and said Dr.Palanivelu’s accomplishments are internationally acknowledged and the day the world sees the prestigious Palanivel Award is not so far.
B.K.Krishnaraj Vanavarayar, Chairman, Bharathiya Vidya Bhavan, Coimbatore who was also the Guest of Honor offered felicitation. He appreciated Dr.Palanivelu for getting honored at Britain’s House of Commons. He mentioned that every time when Palanivelu was felicitated he had been there to felicitate him and he found joy in appreciating the works of the doctor. He heaped praise on Dr.Palanivelu; calling him a man whose dreams always has the needed determination that is powered by faith and hard work which had tremendous amount of sacrifices & little setbacks but through his perseverance he achieved greatness and sustained it from the day he made his own mark.
The Chief Guest ,Kris Gopalakrishnan offered felicitation. He said “A city is recognized by the achievement of its people and Coimbatore is being recognized internationally by men like Dr.C.Palanivelu”. He said he read about the life of Dr.Palanivelu recently and mentioned that the doctor is driven to bring a change and has the drive for innovation. He mentioned that he learned the reason for the doctor to choose laparoscopy; it is faster than a surgery and has little complications. He said this conviction of Dr.Palanivelu highlights the care he has over the patients. He wished him an illustrious future.
Accepting the award, Dr.Palanivelu said that this is a moment to be cherished for lifetime. He narrated his early life and the obstacles he faced, moving to Malaysia and the family’s battle with poverty. He said his circumstances had a major role in his aspirations to become a doctor, and for instance he traveled through his memory lane and told how by witnessing the power of medicine that healed his injury, he started to like that profession. He also highlighted how he had the will to try something new when he found what others doing were not as viable as his ideas.
He thanked Rotary and said he will keep on working even a lot more, owing to this recognition by Rotary Metropolis. Janakiram Raju, Secretary, Rotary Club of Coimbatore Metropolis proposed the Vote of Thanks.
