Clean and Modern Small Industries by 2030

Co-India recently hosted the Southern regional consultative dialogue on greening and modernizing small industries, for the United Nations Industrial Development Organization and the office of the Development Commissioner Micro small and Medium Enterprises. At present about 2 crore manufacturing MSME’s employ 3.6 Crore people contribute to about 40 per cent of manufacturing exports. Coimbatore is a vibrant hub for manufacturing MSME’s in sectors as diverse as foundry, textiles, engineering, paper and pulp to mention a few.

Notwithstanding the importance of manufacturing MSME’s, their performance in terms of productivity, innovation, environment and occupational health & safety lags behind national standards and international expectations said, Van Berkel, UNDO representative for India. PM Modi through recent announcements has been ableto reach out to MSME sector with a package of support aiming at easing access and lowering costs for credits and markets for MSME’s.
