
Hindusthan College of Arts & Science, in collaboration with the Coimbatore Chess Association, recently hosted the Bharathiar University Intercollegiate Chess Tournament from September 14 to 16, 2023. This prestigious event, held at the college’s auditorium, saw an impressive turnout of 93 colleges, making it a significant chess competition in the region.
The tournament featured both team and individual championships, with the top six individual winners earning the privilege to represent their colleges at the India Inter-university chess championship. The esteemed event welcomed Ragukumar, the District Sports and Youth Welfare Officer of Coimbatore, as the Chief Guest. Additionally, the presence of Ponnusamy, the college Principal, Karunanidhi, the Physical Director, and Jeeva, the Assistant Physical Director, added to the event’s prestige.
In the Men’s section, PSG College of Arts And Science secured the 1st place, followed by VLB Jaanakiyammal College of Arts and Science in 2nd place and Sri Saraswathi Thyagaraja College, Pollachi, in 3rd place. Gobi Arts and Science College, Gobi, claimed the 4th position.
For the Women’s section, PSG College of Arts and Science emerged victorious in 1st place, with Gobi Arts and Science College, Gobi, in 2nd place, PSGR Krishnammaal College in 3rd place, and Government Arts College, Coimbatore, securing the 4th spot. The tournament showcased remarkable chess talent and celebrated the spirit of competition among these colleges.
