District Collector insisted KCT students prepare for IT Opportunities

Kumaraguru Institutions recently hosted the Young Indians (Yi) Coimbatore chapter for the Y20 brainstorming session, providing a platform for global youth to engage in consultative discussions under the G20 framework. The event focused on two key themes: “Future of Government – Reimagining Governance” and “Future of Entrepreneurship.”

The panel discussion on “Future of Government – Reimagining Governance” saw the participation of esteemed figures including Balakrishnan, Police Commissioner of Coimbatore City, Kranti Kumar Pati, District Collector, and Prathap, Corporation Commissioner. Addressing the audience, the Collector emphasized Coimbatore’s potential as an IT technology hub, highlighting the presence of IT parks and the recently announced Coimbatore Tech City project. He encouraged college students to prepare themselves for forthcoming opportunities in the field.

He specifically invited proposals from institutions like Kumaraguru that incorporate cutting-edge technologies and offer solutions to the city’s challenges, such as solid waste management.

During the discussion, the City Police Commissioner shed light on the disruptive influence of technology in various government departments. He acknowledged the positive impact of artificial intelligence and drone technology, citing examples such as the use of AI-powered CCTV cameras to detect unusual activities. However, he also emphasized the rise of challenges related to security and cybercrimes, with over 50 cybercrime complaints received daily.

The panel members collectively acknowledged the transformative role of technology in governance. The District Collector highlighted the scientific approach to governance, improving day-to-day services through revolutionary technologies and enhanced welfare functions.

Incorporating public opinion emerged as an important aspect of participatory governance in the digital era, as noted by the Corporation Commissioner. Popular opinions and out-of-the-box ideas gathered from the public contribute to the decision-making process and help improve the system.

The Y20 brainstorming session provided an invaluable platform for exchanging ideas and discussing the future of government and entrepreneurship. The outcomes of the session will be documented and submitted to the Ministry of Youth Affairs, ensuring the youth’s perspectives are considered in shaping policies and strategies for the nation’s progress.
