Shantanu Thakur, Union Minister of State for Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, launched the Direct Shipping Service from VOC Port, Tuticorin to Male on Friday and welcomed the MSS Galena into the India-Maldives Service.
With a capacity to transport 421 TEUS of containers and the ability to transport bulk cargo, MSS Galena is travelling from Tuticorin with 270 TEUS of containers. The ship, which departed Tuticorin on Friday, is anticipated to arrive in Male on May 7.
Members of the VOC Port board, as well as top representatives from the VO Chidambaranar Port Authority and the Shipping Corporation of India, attended the event. Through video conferencing Munu Mahawar, High Commissioner of India to the Maldives, HE Ahmed Zuhair, Minister of State for Transport and Civil Aviation, Maldivian Ministry, and Ibrahim Shaheeb, High Commissioner of Maldives to India took part in the event.
