TNAU – BDTC jointly hosts training on Biogas technology

Ministry of New and Renewable Energy sponsored Biogas Development and Training Centre (BDTC) functioning at the Department of the Renewable Energy Engineering, Agricultural Engineering College and Research Institute, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore organized three training programmes viz., Turnkey Workers training (16.03.2023 – 30.03.2023) for the unemployed youths, Staff training (27.03.2023 – 30.03.2023) for Assistant Engineers & DRDA officials and Mason training (21.03.2023 – 29.03.2023) for masons. The training highlighted the present and futuristic perspectives of biogas technology including various sessions on Alternative feedstocks for biogas, microbiology of biogas, biogas scrubbing for biomethane/ Bio-CNG production, biogas applications, site selection & construction of biogas plants, solar thermal & photovoltaics technologies, biofuel production from algae, etc., Also latest development in the biomass energy had been covered.

Field visits were arranged for the participants to acquire practical knowledge of biogas plant construction and maintenance aspects. Turnkey workers and trainees collected details of a biogas plant in different parts of Tamil Nadu during the survey period.

On the closing note of the training, the valedictory function was held on 30.03.2023 at Agricultural Engineering College & Research Institute, TNAU Coimbatore. During the valedictory function, Ramesh, Professor & Head, Department of Renewable Energy Engineering and Coordinator BDTC welcomed the gathering. Raviraj,
Dean (Engg.), AEC & RI, Coimbatore delivered a presidential address and he highlighted the importance of the training and distributed the certificates to the trainees. Finally,
Dr P. Vijayakumary, Associate Professor, Department of Renewable Energy Engineering, TNAU proposed a formal vote of thanks.
