A New Initiative: Thudiyalur Corporation School joined in Asteroid Search Campaign  

International Asteroid Search Campaign conducted by the International Astronomical Search Collaboration (IASC) in partnership with NASA and Pan-STARRS, University of Hawaii was held from September 21 to October 17, 2022. For the first time, among Tamil Nādu Government schools, the Corporation Middle School Thudiyalur took an initiative to join in that campaign.

The 6th and 7th std students participated in the campaign divided into two teams namely Sridhar, Sanjeevkumar, Saicharan, Hariharasudhan, Kishore from Naal Meen team and Chanikasri, Sakthivel, Kumaran, Subashini, Chandru from Kool Mean team. They’ve detected Asteroids using Astrometrica software under the guidance of Chitra, an English Teacher, Corporation Middle School, Thudiyalur. The IASC has announced that 15 of the more than 30 Asteroids detected by the students are likely to be Asteroids in the first round of observation.

Certificates for the students were presented by former ISRO scientists Ingersoll Chelaturai and Ilangovan Rajagopal, International Meteorological Agency (IASC) in a function held at Jamal Mohammed College of Arts and Sciences, Trichy district, which was received by Chitra, Tudiyalur Middle School teacher.

Nirmala, Science Teacher said,” Scientific advancements and inventions play a vital role in the economic development of a country and also scientific discoveries should be promoted to everyone”. She also spoke about ‘National Science Day’, which is celebrated to mark the discovery of the Raman Effect that led to Sir CV Raman winning the Nobel Prize.

Chitra, English Teacher said, “We have equipped each classroom with smart TV, computers, smart boards, multi-purpose smart panel and other science experiment materials for the welfare of the students. Also, with the support of the Open Space Foundation, our students constructed a Telescope under the funding of the Rotary E Club of Metro Dynamics.”
