Recently, a 16 year old college student’s liver has been transported from Tirunelveli to KMCH hospital at Coimbatore by ambulance.
The liver of brain dead patient Gopikrishnan, a resident from Thisayanvilai in Tirunelveli District was successfully transported from Tirunelveli to KMCH hospital within 4 hours and was successfully transplanted to an acute liver failure patient at KMCH, Coimbatore.
The Police Department of Tirunelveli, Viruthunagar, Madurai, Dindugal, Tirupur and Coimbatore had cleared traffic to make the transport traffic – free.
Honoring their gesture, KMCH Chairman Dr. Nalla G.Palaniswami thanked the Coimbatore District Collector, Coimbatore City Police Commissioner and Coimbatore District Superintendent of Police who helped with coordinating the transportation. He also thanked the family members for taking a timely decision adding that, this act of generosity will bring more awareness about organ donation among public.
