Envisioning a city of future

Coimbatore Municipal Corporation with the support of CII Coimbatore and Young Indians Coimbatore and powered by Forge Innovation & Ventures organised a think tank workshop for key officials of the Corporation in documenting various urban challenges present at the Coimbatore City and coming up with problem statements for eventual resolution through a Hackathon planned in the forthcoming months. This initiative is a part of the larger Coimbatore NXT, which has Inclusive City Development and Envisioning Future Coimbatore as one of its key goals.

Addressing the inaugural session, Dr M Sharmila, Deputy Commissioner, Coimbatore Municipal Corporation, set the context on the need for curating such a workshop for the senior officials of the Corporation. She stated that such a workshop will certainly help in documenting the challenges faced by different departments of the Coimbatore Corporation and will help in listing the problem statements in a more organised manner. She thanked CII Coimbatore, Yi Coimbatore and Forge Innovation & Ventures for supporting the corporation in organising such a unique workshop.

Initially delivering the welcome remarks, Prashanth Subramanian, Chairman, CII Coimbatore, thanked the Corporation Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner and other senior officials for providing an opportunity for CII, Yi and Forge for facilitating such a workshop for the officials of the Corporation. He mentioned that this curated workshop organised as a part of the Coimbatore Vizha celebrations will pave way for fruitful collaborations aimed at furthering the development of the city.

Vish Sahasranamam, CEO & Co-Founder, Forge Innovation & Ventures, explained the ways in which Cities can leverage the innovations of the startups in transforming the urban sector and mitigating the challenges. He also explained the Innovation Sandbox Grid, based on which the workshop is based upon.

M Prathap IAS, Commissioner, Coimbatore Municipal Corporation extended a special visit and interacted with each of the think tank teams which were created for discussing and deliberating the problems and offered significant inputs to the teams and encouraged them to come out with innovative solutions, especially digitally enabled solutions. He appreciated the efforts of the corporation team for joining hands and the organizers, CII, Yi & Forge for their efforts in visualizing a better city.

About 50 key officials from diverse departments of the Coimbatore Corporation comprising the Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner, Assistant Commissioners, Engineers, Planners, City Health Officers and other Mid-level officers participated in this curated workshop.
