Earlier, on the occasion of the death of Pope Benedict XVI, a special mass and prayer were held at Holy Trinity Church, Ramanathapuram for his soul to find rest.
The 95-year-old Pope Benedict XVI died of ageing health issues recently. Christians around the world are holding mourning meetings and special prayers for his death.
In this regard, on behalf of Ramanathapuram Syro Malabar Diocese, Coimbatore, a special memorial service was held at Holy Trinity Church, Ramanathapuram, for the peace of the soul of the late Pope. The Bishop of Ramanathapuram Diocese Mar Paul Alapatt led the special mass and prayers.
Addressing the media, Bishop said, “Even though the late Pope Benedict 16 was in office for eight years, he was an excellent philanthropist who played an important role in the development of the Catholic Church, in bringing theological awareness to the believers of the Church, and in publishing the teachings of the Church.”
Priests of the district, religious preachers, generalists and many other people took part in the tribute prayer meeting.
