Avinashilingam organized international conference on ‘Sustainable Dairy industry’

The Indian Dairy Association (IDA – Tamil Nadu Chapter), the Nutrition Society of India (NSI – Coimbatore Chapter) and the Department of Food Science and Nutrition at Avinashilingam Institute for Home Science and Higher Education for Women, Coimbatore collaboratively organized an International Conference held on ‘Indian Dairying: Sustainability and Nutritional Security’.

As many as 1000 participants including farmers, officials of IDA, faculty members, scholars and students from different institutions, colleges and research institutes in India and abroad took part in the conference

Guest Meenesh Shah, Chairman, National Dairy Development Board, Anand, Gujarat, released a souvenir and a recipe book containing innovative milk-based recipes during the event.

During the technical session, various speakers from the food science departments of other colleges and experts from the dairy industry presented different topics.

Ramamoorthy, Chairman, Indian Dairy Association, Tamil Nadu Chapter, Dr. R. S. Sodhi, President, Indian Dairy Association and Managing Director, GCMMF, Anand, Gujarat, Dr. Bharathi Harishankar, Vice Chancellor of the Institute and Dr. S Kowsalya, Registrar of the Institute were part of the international conference.

Earlier the institute conducted a milk-based recipe competition. As many as 84 students from Avinashilingam and other colleges of Coimbatore participated. Later an e-poster competition was held under the themes of the conference namely, sustainable dairy farming and marketing, milk and milk products for health and diseases, smart dairy farming, functional dairy product development, dairy supply chain management, and the role of milk in human nutrition.
