Anthropologist Karasur Padmavathi received The Tamil Wiki Periyasamy Thooran Award in addition to a sum of two lakh rupees and a sculpture.
Swami Brahmananda of the Vidyaranya Ashram, Malaysia felicitated the awardee. Folkloristics scholar A.K.Perumal addressed that Padmabharathi’s work redefined anthropology research in Tamil Nadu.
He added, “Padmabharathi’s work redefined anthropology research in Tamil Nadu. Padmabharathi’s books are foremost among them. Her book about the transgender community in Tamil Nadu (Thirunangaiyar – oru) is entirely new and informative, recording 18 previously unknown stories about the community.
Writer Jeyamohan, speaking about Tamil Wiki, emphasized the purpose of high intellectual standards in research.
